Instructions

Please respond to the following questions by clicking on the appropriate button in the YES or NO column. Then refer to the scoring section for a generic interpretation of your score. REMEMBER, only you will see your score and no one will contact you unless you make a specific request, so feel free to honestly express your views on the issues. If you do not understand a question give it a NO.

    No Yes
  1. I have a statement of my life's purpose that was thoughtfully developed and feels comfortable and true. I review it at least monthly.
  2. I am in touch with my personal values and live and work in alignment with them.
  3. I am conscious of my needs and can distinguish between my needs and wants. For example, I don't eat or shop as a substitute for recognition that might be missing at work or in life.
  4. I have consciously taken steps to get my needs satisfied in straight-forward ways, most frequently by making specific requests of family members, friends, and co-workers.
  5. I have a degree of balance in my life that is healthy and contributes to my well-being. I work, play, interact with family, etc. in a proportion that is comfortable and energizes me.
  6. I live in the present. I experience fully what is going on around me whether it be "good" or "bad" and spend little time feeling guilty i.e. being preoccupied about the past or feeling worried i.e. being preoccupied with the future.
  7. I pay attention to the process of living and enjoy it rather than with a fixation on specific outcomes/results that I want to produce. I am able to dance with the possibilities that show up in my life rather than be attached to my picture of how things should turn out in any situation.
  8. I play win-win or no-deal in most situations. I am willing to walk away if a demand that is contrary to my values may be placed upon me as a consequence of a commitment or agreement.
  9. I accept myself and others without judgment most of the time. I honor my humanness and that of others and trust that everyone, including me, is doing their best given their view of the circumstances.
  10. I believe that the present is perfect. I may not like present circumstances or the people I must deal with, but I trust that what is happening has a purpose that is connected to my learning or growth and will probably be revealed in good time.
  11. I am reasonably comfortable with the paradoxes of life and respond gracefully to them. I know there is much that I do not understand and don't demand complete understanding as a prerequisite for taking action.
  12. I am able to distinguish responding from reacting and understand that the former is a consequence of pure choice that can only be made from a context of non-judgment of circumstance and non-attachment to specific outcomes.
